Osseointegrated implants is the ideal solution for the replacement of teeth that have been lost because of periodontal disease, decay or wound. Modern Implants are manufactured from titanium, a material on which fibers of bone can be connected and create osseointegration.
In the case of loss of one or more teeth, implant placement is a better solution than whetting the nearby teeth. Implants are also the alternative solution in cases that the dentures have problems of stability, chewing and even when the quality of life of the denture carrier has been influenced.
For the success in the placement of implants a detailed clinic and radiological examination is necessary from a specialized doctor. Their placement is done usually with local anesthetic.
After the surgical placement of implants, additional work can be done (placement of teeth), or they can remain for a period from three to six months under the gums, depending on the situation, and then the placement of permanent teeth is done. In this case the patient uses in the intermediary provisional appliances.
Osseointegrated implants have a high success rate. There are however minimal cases in which, unfortunately, they cannot be used. Concretely, in individuals suffering from non regulated diabetes, in regions that they have gone through radiotherapy, and in narcotic dependent or psychotropic persons.
In order to have long-lasting success, the implants have to meet certain conditions, such as the right hygiene and the visits in regular time intervals for a check of the implants.
